Aircraft Carriers & asbestos Exposure

Firepower is less than the other warships, aircraft operators are considered vulnerable to attack by other ships, aircraft, submarines, or missiles. They are designed with the primary mission of deploying and recovering the aircraft and allow the Navy to project air power great distances without having to depend on local bases for staging aircraft operations.

Unfortunately, the military used asbestos in the aircraft operator for minerals from refractory and fireproofing ability. Asbestos which is used primarily for insulation products and is located near the engine room. However, all part of the naval ships built before the 1970s are likely to contain asbestos.

Several naval ships still contain asbestos, as the material can be imbedded in the brakes, clutches, gaskets and old construction materials. From the 1930s through the mid-1970s, the U.S. Navy used asbestos-containing materials on all ships. This material will continue to affect another generation until better regulations are strict.
